Nicholas Rio

Nicholas Rio (b. 1992) is an accompanist, arranger / composer, and associate music director of Saint Angela Choir and PSM ITB. He learned electone and piano under the tutelage of Vivi Nathalia, Ine Lopulisa and Bambang Nugroho, conducting under Daniel Victor, and composition under Nathan Iskandar. He further enhanced his musical experience by joining several masterclasses under Gordon Fergus Thompson, Ian Jones, Andrew Zolinsky dan Moritz Ernst (piano); Stephen Leek, Jude Roldan, Stacy Garrop, Ken Steven, dan Z Randall Stroope (composition).

A pianist of various competitions, Rio has been the pianist of Saint Angela Choir, winning 2nd prize on the 49th Tolosa Choral Contest (2017), Grand Prix Winner of the 5th Tokyo International Choir Competition (2023), and 1st prize winner of World Choral Championship 2024 in Rimini; the pianist of Colours Choir on Singapore International Choral Festival (2019), the pianist of PSM ITB, Grand Prize Winner of the Thailand International Choral Festival (2025). He is also the pianist of various concert tours : Magnificat Church Choir Studio at France (2014), Telkom University Choir at South Korea (2022) and Saint Angela Choir at Taiwan (2025). As a composer, he was the winner of the 7th Satya Dharma Gita Choir Festival 2019 composition competition, Musica Sacra Category. Rio’s works has also been published by Padma Music Publishing and MuzikSEA, and has been featured as a part of Maria Theresa Vizconde Roldan’s Choral Series “Choral Adventures: Explore, Educate, Enthrall”.
